UTurn Studios is now offering photography classes. We have several options to cover many aspects of photography at every learning level. Here are the basics:
INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY
This class covers the basics of photography for the beginner. You’ll learn to use your camera to it’s full potential, and will understand the fundamentals of photography including exposure, composition and lighting. Only 10 students will be allowed into each session, so there will be plenty of time for hands-on work and questions. This class will be held in the studio at UTurn Studios, which will allow a great spot for learning indoor photography and 10 acres to roam while getting hands-on time with outdoor photography and lighting. This is a two-day class for a total of 8 hours of class time. The cost of the class is $125 per person, which includes the class, class materials and snacks & beverages for each day of class.

INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY
This class is designed for those who have a grasp on the basics of photography and are looking to take it a step farther. We’ll cover lighting, composition for different types of photography and will delve into some fun photo experiments. Class size will be small, with 10 students or less, so there will be plenty of time for questions and most of the class will be hands-on learning. The classes will be held in the studio at UTurn Studios, with time for both indoor and outdoor photo work. This is a two-day class for a total of 8 hours of class time. The cost of the class is $125 per person, which includes the class, class materials and snacks & beverages for each day of class. Students who have already completed the Introduction to Photography class will receive a $25 discount for the Intermediate class.

TAILORED GROUP PHOTO LESSONS
This option is offered to any group of 5-20 people. You can choose from the following courses: - Photography Basics
- Outdoor/nature photography
- Studio photography
- Lighting for photography
- Q&A Session - anything goes*
- Portrait photography
- Still life/food photography
Choose one of the basic subjects for your group, then we’ll consult with you to tailor the class to your groups’ specific needs. Classes can be held at your location anywhere within 30 miles of Springfield, MO (classes are available outside this area with a small travel fee). Group organizer will receive free admission for any group of 10 or more, two free admissions for a group of 20. A four hour session is $100 per person, an additional hour may be added for $10 per person.

PRIVATE PHOTO LESSONS
Private photography sessions are also available. This session is a one-on-one that can cover nearly any photo topic you can dream up. Some common requests are:
- Business start-up consultation
- Portfolio review
- Basic to advanced photography instruction
- Studio photography
- Photography tips for travel photography, kids’ sporting events, scrapbooking
Private sessions can be held at UTurn Studios or at the location of your choice (within 30 miles of Springfield, MO; outside this area will incur a small travel fee). The fee for private lessons is $50 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum.

Meet the Instructor:
Hi! I’m April Turner, professional photographer and owner of UTurn Studios — and photography instructor for the classes offered by UTurn. My background is in graphic design, with 10+ years experience in graphics for companies such as Sunbeam, Tracker Marine and Fantastic Caverns. I began to learn photography while art directing photo shoots with some of the top photographers in the area. I transitioned to a photography career by shooting stock photography and then opening UTurn Studios. At UTurn, I offer pet photography as well as senior portrait photography. I have had the good fortune to work in many different realms of photography; including still life/food, portraiture, nature, weddings and photojournalism. I was bit by the teaching bug when I had the opportunity to teach photography classes at OTC in Springfield, where I taught for two years. I dearly love sharing my passion for photography with others and hope to do so through these classes. I hope you find a class to your liking, if not — drop me a line and let me know. NOTES:
*Please note that pet photography will not be covered or discussed in any photo class or private lesson. Pet photography consultation is available at the private photography lesson rate for students who are outside a 500 mile radius of Springfield, MO.
Minimum class size for Introduction & Intermediate class is 5 students. UTurn Studios reserves the right to cancel any class that does not fill. Payment will be refunded in the event that a class is cancelled.
A 50% deposit is required at time of booking for all classes & lessons, with the remaining 50% due on the first day of class. The deposit is non-refundable, unless the class is cancelled by UTurn Studios, at which time the amount paid will be refunded.
